Taking the dogs to the beach.

Going to the beach is not something a Minnesotan normally does in the middle of March but that is exactly what we did this past Sunday on the shore of Lake Superior.  With our two dogs Lucy and Calvin, our friend Mike’s dog Noki (who we are dog sitting this week) and my brother’s girlfriend’s dog Maya it was quite the party.

There was still plenty of ice along the shoreline.  Lucy and Calvin were not sure what to think of it but were quite adventurous.

Barkeep! Another beer please.

A Romp on the Trails

I’ve been taking Lucy mountain biking this year at Salem Hills mountain bike trails in Inver Grove Heights. It’s a great trail because it allows dogs to be off leash, only runs in one direction, and is not as heavily used as other parks.

I wasn’t completely positive how Lucy would behave around my bicycle but from the first time out she dropped right in line and loves to hug my rear wheel. Just need to work on building up her strength so that she can go more than one lap.

Smile for the camera!

One well fed doggy

Last night while Laura and I were out of the house for a meeting our mischief maker Lucy was able to get into the room we’ve been storing the food for our new puppy. Well she seemed to help herself to as much as she could handle because when we got home her stomache looked to have expanded to twice its size. Fearing a common occurence in deep chested dogs call bloat we called the emergency vet and they recommended bringing her in.

A short drive to the vet and we got her an x-ray. It was definitely something to be concerned about but not so much that they felt she needed to stay the night. So we took our poor swollen bellied dog home and she appears to be doing better today.

The large vertical football shape is her stomach. If it had expanded to about two more vertebrae back she would have been looking to be in pretty rough shape.

Introducing the newest member of the family

Introducing Calvin! Calvin is a weimaraner lab mix and we adopted him from Saint Francis of Assissi Animal Shelter . We’re slowing introducing Lucy and him together and so far it seems to be going well. More photos and updates to come!

Movie & Dogs

This past Saturday night Laura and I got out of the house to go see the movie Little Miss Sunshine at the dollar theater with Becca, Greg, Katie, and Tom. It was quite the hilarious movie and if you have not seen it I definitely recommend checking it out when it comes out on DVD.

After the movie was over we all decided to head back to the Haraldson Family Brewpub for a pint. Because everyone that went now owns a dog Tom and Becca and Greg and Katie both decided to stop by their respective homes and pick up their dogs so that they could get a little romping in at our place.  I should note that Andy also joined us after he got off work.

The dogs were all going at it pretty good so I decided to get out my camera and take a few photos.
