I spent the last four days trying my very best to stay warm while covering what is known as one of the toughest race in the world, the the Arrowhead 135.  It is a human powered ultra marathon in the coldest part of winter in the coldest city in the lower 48 states.  The average finish rate is less than 50% of the field.  The race, as the name implies, is 135 miles long across Northern Minnesota on the rugged, scenic Arrowhead State Trail from International Falls to Tower, MN with racers choosing to bike, run or ski the course.  I was in awe of the racers, many going without sleep for the entire race.  I was brought up to shoot the race by Salsa Cycles so my photos will have to wait to be seen.  A big thanks to Mike Riemer of Salsa for sticking it out with me, laughing at my jokes, driving me all over the place and keeping me awake (we shot from 6AM all the way to 3:30AM the next day on our first day of shooting) and Laura for staying home to watch our girls!
Wow, that looks cold…….
