Remembering Julie Steiskal

Julie is someone who was only in Laura and my life briefly but the one day I got to know her left a lasting impression on me.  She was funny, passionate about what she was doing in life, and an extremely talented photographer.  This past week Julie lost her life trying to save a member of her church group from drowning on a  trip to the North Shore.  Please keep Julie and her family and friends in your prayers.  She will no doubt be deeply missed in the photography community.

I recorded some audio clips from that day and pulled out some of the ones involving Julie.

  1. I can’t even begin to say how much this has been affecting me since finding out Julie passed away, and what’s bizarre is that I really didn’t know her that well, just the one day in Maple Grove. To hear her voice again is somehow calming to me and I think just reminds me that at any moment of any day even the most animated individuals can lose their life. Julie was and is an inspiration to a lot of people, and I know thinking of her will help me keep in perspective what’s most important in life while we struggle through the day-to-day: faith, family and friends, and a passion for all of these. Thank you, Julie, for touching me; you and your family are absolutely in my thoughts and prayers.

  2. Thank you Scott for giving us the sound of Julie. I’m her mom and this really means a lot to us.

  3. Julie was my childhood friend. I just found out she died tonight. I am so sad. Thank you for letting me her voice once more.

  4. Thanks for keeping this up Scott. I listened to Julie again today. This is a very kind thing for you to make available. Your comments and the photos that you provide are really special to us. Thank you, thank you, thank you! We miss her so.

  5. BTW, I love your photos of the babies with the hats. Julie would have enjoyed your photos! She had a box of baby hats she left behind that we have used or given away over the years.

  6. How wonderful to have this audio for the family to be reminded of her voice, and her passion. It is so obvious from these pictures that her life was surrounded by people with that same passion. What a gift for those who loved her.
