Wed: Sarah & Josh

Sarah & Josh got married on a sunny Aug. 2, 2008. We met Josh through mutual friends at Red Bull, and immediately we connected over our mutual love of the energy drink and kickball. Sarah had her hair and makeup done at Spalon Montage in Woodbury.

Both Josh and Sarah got ready at hotels near their reception site of Oak Marsh Golf Course in Oakdale, Sarah at Wildwood Lodge and Josh at Holiday Inn Express.

After stopping off at Target to pick up some black socks for the best man, the bride and groom met up at Rice Park in Saint Paul to catch a first moment together before the ceremony began.

Sarah had to reserve her date a year and a half ahead of time to secure Saint Paul’s Cathedral, and the architecture of the historic building is more than worth it. The Cathedral is prepping and raising money for a $30 million renovation.

All of the floral decorations were created by Josh’s dad.

One of the things we selfishly really enjoyed about Sarah & Josh was their wililngness to do just about anything in their wedding clothes. From a trip to McDonalds to Kellogg Park to traipsing across and even getting down on the grass at the golf course, it was clear they were having the best day of their lives, and it made our job of capturing their moments so enjoyable.

E&E

Erin & Erik contacted us last winter inquiring about photography services for this fall. Erin is the sister of one of Laura’s good friends from college. She runs, he bikes, similar to the two of us. In spring we scooted around Minneapolis with the couple, just skirting rain showers at Lake Harriet.

We snapped a couple of quick pics when we first met with Erik & Erin last winter in Saint Paul’s Rice Park.

Just a week before, we’d shot a wedding that drove us right by this bridge along Minnehaha Parkway in Minneapolis. Unable to stop that day, we made a point to pause briefly on our way to Minnehaha Falls with Erin & Erik.

Erik & Erin were real troopers, happily changing clothes throughout the day to lend some diversity to our pics. Check out Erin’s heels!

Erin & Erik have just less than a month to go before their big day. Best of luck to them as they finalize their plans!

Remembering Julie Steiskal

Julie is someone who was only in Laura and my life briefly but the one day I got to know her left a lasting impression on me.  She was funny, passionate about what she was doing in life, and an extremely talented photographer.  This past week Julie lost her life trying to save a member of her church group from drowning on a  trip to the North Shore.  Please keep Julie and her family and friends in your prayers.  She will no doubt be deeply missed in the photography community.

I recorded some audio clips from that day and pulled out some of the ones involving Julie.

Introducing: Jack Swetz

Laura and I got our first chance to meet Matt and Kristine’s new son Jack for a small little photo shoot. He’s quite the little cutie and after a little settling down we got some really fun photos.  We’re looking forward to taking more of little Jack in the future.

Photostars take on the Town Talk Diner

I was excited when Sara from BeeTour Photography invited Laura and I to a meet-up of local photographers at the Town Talk Diner.   Laura for two reasons, one to meet a bunch of new fabulous local photographers, and two the adult malts they serve.   We were pretty beat from a long day so we didn’t get to stay as long as we had wanted but we are both looking forward to the next meet-up.  Now I’ve got a stack of business cards to go through and add all kinds of new people to my blog reader :)  For some other awesome shots from the night check out Eliesa of Photogen Inc’s blog.

Photography Mixer

Laura and I joined eight other talented photographers from the area to get together to talk shop, have lunch, take some photos of each other, learn new techniques and just generally get to know some new photographers. We had a lot of fun getting to know everyone and are looking forward to a future meet-up. I didn’t take a lot of photos but here are a few that I did (click the photos to enlarge). I’ll get Laura to put up some as well. Thanks everyone for the great time!

Miscellaneous Photo Sunday

Penelope Jordan Lee

Our friends Amie & Brian recently gave birth to a cute little girl, and Laura and I were to sure to get over to their house to take some photographs.

This is only our second foray into infant photography, and we’re looking forward to many more documentations as Penny grows up.

I love my punch pizza

Punch Pizza has recently started their own blog to name the winners of their “Capture our Fire” photography contest.  Starting this past Saturday they will name a finalist every other day and blog about them on the website.

I’m hoping to see my name pop up there cause I’m all about throwing a big ole pizza party for all my friends!

You can see my two entries here and here.
